How your support has already changed lives
Read on to find out more about some of the young people Byte Night has supported over the last ten years. These success stories are testament to the difference you too can make by joining us this year...Action for Children works with vulnerable young people to help them get off the streets, as well as working to prevent them ending up there in the first place. Here are some of our success stories:
Finding their feet
Young people in care face huge challenges when they must fend for themselves. Many care leavers struggle to cope with life on their own and many become homeless as a result. Action for Children's leaving care projects support young people as they find their feet, and Gav and Ross are two of our success stories.
Gav and Ross have been friends since primary school. Gav spent seven years in care, staying in different foster homes until finally - with Action for Children's help - he moved into a flat of his own. Ross also moved from one care placement to another until he too began living independently at the age of 17. Today they both attend Action for Children's Youth Reach aftercare project.
The project helps with finding accommodation, decorating, buying furniture, budgeting, shopping, finding employment or accessing college. They also offer the young people much-needed emotional support - Gav says 'Action for Children kind of provides a safety net - it's nice to know that there are people there for you and good to know that there are people who do care.'
'Whenever I had a problem,' Ross says, 'I knew I could get help from the project. The people are really decent to talk to and it gives you a release from a lot of worries. Things started to ease up for me when I came here. Everyone gets on really well here and you can have a laugh. But they make sure you have what you need and they are really looking after you - it has a real family atmosphere here.'
Thank you - your ongoing support means that young people like Ross and Gav don't have to face an uncertain future.
